With Vehicle lightweight has been identified as the key direction of future vehicle development, the application of lightweight materials has become the important content for OEMs and component suppliers. As concept of lightweight continues to heat up, traditional materials will face with a wide range of update and replacement, and there will be a new fierce competition between lightweight materials in the future.
October 25-26, China vehicle lightweight material application innovation summit 2018 was held in Shanghai. The summit focuses on the vehicle lightweight material application and development with the advanced manufacturing process, discuss the metal material and non-metal material’s current application and forecast in vehicle lightweight, aims to find the best solution of vehicle lightweight then promote the green and sustainable development of whole automotive industry. Experts from CATARC, BAIC, Changan Automobile, Changjiang EV Corp, Bentler, BMW China, FAW-VW and other organizations shared the latest trends in automotive lightweight materials, application and development at the summit.

At the summit, Jieli Ma, Head of ArcelarMittal local EVI team in China gave a speech on ArcelarMittal 2nd Generation PHS with VAMA and GONVVAMA Localization.
He introduced the advantages of ArcelorMittal 2nd generation of PHS material, S-in-motion® brand products, which provide tailored solutions to customers for their various requirements in regards of lightweight, safety, emission reduction, cost control, corrosion resistance and etc.

As joint venture projects of ArcelorMittal in China, VAMA and GONVVAMA are not only suppliers and processors of patented materials, but also suppliers of integrated solutions for automotive steel. As a downstream solution provider for automotive steel, GONVVAMA is specialized in the monolithic and laser welding operation for hot stamping steel, AHSS, UHSS and exposed steel. The aim of GONVVAMA is to provide good products and technical solutions to carmakers.
He also introduced the first inner and outer door ring system of Acura RDX which has achieved local production here in China, ArcelorMittal's new steel battery box solution is also presented.

In a subsequent panel discussion “In the Era of Electrification, Challenges and Opportunities of Vehicle Lightweight”, Jieli Ma said the rapid development of NEV in the China, traditional steel does face the impact of other lightweight materials. However, we are committed to bringing the world's leading lightweight steel products and advanced solutions to the domestic market to China's NEV manufacturers. Taking the battery box as an example, he said ArcelorMittal, VAMA and GONVVAMA are not just material suppliers, but provide the most valuable services to customers at the R&D and design stage from the perspective of technology development and overall solutions.
